Science and technologies

It has been told that knowledge is something that sets us free. If you have knowledge there are no boundaries, or limits to your journey into this world. However, as says the popular proverb: knowledge opens doors, but one must step through by his own. Nowadays we can affirm that information and communication technologies play an important role is this stepping through. Now, not only our ideas can move, but we can move along with them. Our avatars in cyberspace are ubiquitous, they can represent us and they also can collect information to us. They never sleep, they are always looking for something that can suits fine to our needs.

So, from the point of view of scientific research, this represents a big change. ‘Cause we no longer need to wait until the final results of a research, but we can follow the process through the clues left by the researcher along his way. Another interesting aspect about this is that the development of Rich Internet Applications (RIA) can not only help us with the data-driven analysis, but it can also stimulate research insights.

A beautiful example of these RIA is the Genographic Project which aims to map the human migrations using geographical and genetic data. Besides the use of technology to make a data visualisation this research also engage different researchers from different countries (like the mineiro Fabricio Santos from the "Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais"). So it's also a great example of e-Science!

This is just the beginning. There’s much more to come.
